Legendary Descent:
In the mythologies of ancient cultures, many gods were notorious for their illicit affairs with mortals. What if these deities and other characters from mythology had actually existed, and their affairs had resulted in a legendary bloodline lasting until today? This series of photomanipulations attempts to portray these hypothetical descendants...



The Norse love goddess, Freyja was a lustful woman and a sucker for almost anything made of gold. Although she had many lovers, she spent her spare time searching for her lost husband Ódr (of whom nothing was known but his name) in her cat-drawn charriot, weeping tears of gold all the while...

One of my housemates was going on about all her cocktail dresses during early-mid 2010, so I asked her to model as Freyja in one of them. We did the photoshoot one evening while the cats were curled up around the fire. Unfortunately, Mini (a grumpy old tabby) didn't want to cooperate, and the photo only included Pepper (the black cat). I had to have two cats, though, so I added Pippin (my own cat) into the image later! I thought of including a mobile phone as well, as if this "descendant" of Freyja has been trying to contact her boyfriend, but he is ignoring her (he must be descended from Ódr ). If you look closely, I have included the golden tears too! I had almost finished the artwork when I realized I had forgotten the Brisingamen necklace...the most important of all Freyja's symbols! So I quickly asked my mum if I could raid her necklace collection ...
